With a friend, your family or in your small group, discuss the following questions:
2. The people of Israel didn’t enjoy being corrected by the prophets. Share a story of when you received correction that you found hard to take!
3. “Trust and obedience are two sides of the same coin.” Do you agree or disagree? In what ways does this idea make sense or not make sense to you?
4. Does understanding the role of a kinsman-redeemer in ancient Israelite culture help you think differently about God’s declaration to his people (and to us) that he is our redeemer? How?
5. Verse 2 says “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.” Share a story when you were alone and afraid. Why does it make such a difference simply knowing we’re not alone?
6. Does knowing that you’re loved by God affect you? How? Are there tangible ways in which you experience God’s love that you could share with your group?
7. If you found yourself in a sticky situation, who are two people you would choose to represent you on the witness stand and why?
8. Is there a portion of this passage that resonates most with you? What is God’s invitation to you in it?
9. What do you need to trust God for in your life? Pray for each other about these things.
