Suffering Glory—Shadows of the Good to Come
Hebrews 10
Trish Haq
With a friend, your family or in your small group, discuss the following questions:
1. Reflect back on the sermon series so far. Share some key thoughts that have stayed with you over the past few months. Are there n. any verses or passages that you have found particularly meaningful or challenging?
2. Read Hebrews 10:19-25. Reflect together on these verses. What stands out? What questions do you have? What encourages you?
3. Hebrews 10:22 invites the reader to draw near to God. How has Jesus made this possible for us?
4. Reflect on the ideas presented throughout Chapters 5-10. How do the ideas shared in these chapters help us to understand this culminating statement in Hebrews 10:19-25?
5. What is the significance of the curtain mentioned in Hebrews 10:20 (hint - explore the theme of tabernacle: Genesis 2-3, Exodus 26, Mark 15:38-40)
6. In what ways throughout scripture has God shown us His intention and desire to give us his presence? (Genesis 2, Exodus 40:34-35, Revelation 21:1-4)
7. In your own life, what helps you to draw near to God? In what ways do you find this challenging? Does anything get in the way?
8. Hebrews says “let us draw near to God” and that we should not give up meeting together. We are meant to draw near to God together. In what ways do you find gathering with other believers helpful in your faith journey? Why is this important?
9. What is one thing that you would like to start doing (or stop doing) to help you draw nearer to God in the days ahead?
Pray for each other out of the points discussed. Pray for one another especially for the steps that you each would like to take to draw nearer to God in the days ahead. Take time to give thanks for Christ’s saving work. Pray for a deepened understanding of what it means that we can have confidence “to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body (Hebrews 10:21-22).
