Amen! - Prayers of the Scriptures

With a friend, your family or in your small group, discuss the following questions:

1. How has the way you view and approach prayer been impacted by this summer message series at North Park entitled, Amen. Prayers of the Scriptures?
2. In general, would you say that you are a rule keeper or a rule breaker? Discuss the pros and the cons of each of these ways of living.
3. In what situations do you find that you are more likely to become self absorbed with little compassion left over for others? Describe an experience you have had lately when you were self righteous. What did you learn from that situation?
4. How has the mass media contributed to our increasingly self centred world? Discuss some of the main influences in our society and their impact on the way that we live.
5. Take some time to really ponder where you get your identity. Does your identity come from what you do, your job or career? Does it come from what you have accomplished or the wealth that you have accumulated? Or, does your identity come from who you are? That means that as a Christian, you are a Child of God. How does where you get your identity shape the way that you live each day?
6. Can you describe someone who is an example of humility in your life? What traits does that person possess that exude humility to you?

Prayer and Action Item

Pray for one another out of the key points that were discussed. Have you ever started a prayer with, God, have mercy on me, a sinner? If not, try leading your prayers with that statement this week and take note of how that impacts the rest of what you pray for each day.
