‘Til He Appears
Joel Miles
With a friend, your family or in your small group, discuss the following questions:
2. Read 1:67-70. Zechariah's prophecy is meant to be read in response to the question of verse 66. However, who is Zechariah talking about in these verses? Why is it that important?
3. What Old Testament language does Zechariah seem to be using in these first few verses?
4. Read 1:71-75. How does Zechariah expand on what "salvation" means?
5. What tense is Zechariah using? Why does that matter? What is his overall claim?
6. Why is it important for us to recognize that the claim of Zechariah (and the New Testament) is that Jesus has already accomplished these things? How do we balance that with the longing we are almost meant to have for Jesus to return?
7. According to verses 1:76-79, how is John to prepare the way for Jesus to come?
8. Compare 1:79 to Isaiah 9:2-7. What do you notice? What is Zechariah's claim?
9. How differently do you think we would live if we truly believed we knew the end of the story of the world? How does this text push us to have that confidence?
