Baptism

At North Park, we practice believer’s baptism through immersion in water, after one has professed faith in Jesus Christ. Water baptism is a public proclamation that symbolically demonstrates what happens to us when Christ comes into our life.

We hold baptism services twice a year, if you are interested in baptisms or have any questions feel free to contact us below.

Groups

At North Park, we believe in the importance of building an authentic and meaningful community. If you're searching for connections that go beyond Sunday mornings or a group of individuals who share similar beliefs, we encourage you to join one of our groups at North Park. We have a wide range of groups where you can connect with others and experience the sense of belonging that comes from being part of a community.

Our community is committed to supporting one another through prayer and providing a safe and welcoming space to do so. VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHT -- Meet the Vaughn’s - Julie and Brad. Both Julie and Brad have been serving around North Park for a long time! As talented musicians they have served for years in our Worship Arts ministries, Brad as a drummer and vocalist, and Julie as a trumpet player and vocalist. Additionally, Julie also serves on Tech team as a graphics operator. With their kind hearted and cheerful way, both Brad and Julie bring passion and joy to all they do and no matter what team they serve on, they are always a welcome addition. Friends for Dinner is a fantastic ministry that encourages families to positively impact the lives of international students by hosting them for dinner, and Friends for Dinner Easter is now open for registration! We invite families and individuals to sign up and host a meal gathering with two or more international students this coming Easter. The meal can take place anytime from March 24-April 1, 2024. Each month we ask one of our staff members to recommend a book to our congregation. In honour of Black History Month we wanted to recommend two books for our church community. Both of these books approach the conversation of racial injustice from a Christian perspective. 1. "Jesus and the Disinherited" by Howard Thurman: This classic work inspires us to embody Christ's message of love, compassion, and justice in confronting societal inequities. Howard Thurman was an author, theologian and civil rights leader in the 20th century. He was a mentor to many in the civil rights movement, including Martin Luther King. 2. "Reading While Black" by Esau McCaulley: Esau McCaulley brings a fresh perspective to the intersection of race, faith, and Scripture. Through insightful reflections, McCaulley challenges us to engage with the Bible in a way that addresses the realities of racial injustice and moves us toward a more inclusive and just world. You can find both of these books in our library here at North Park. Every ministry at North Park relies on dedicated volunteers who give their time, energy, and skills to faithfully serve this community and share the love and grace of Jesus with those around them. These people help to make services happen, care for little ones, are a welcome presence in our lobbies, they care for those in need in our community, give oversight to our community partners and missions work, serve coffee on Sunday mornings, operate our library, teach ESL on Saturday morning, and much, much more. STAFF PICKS -- "If you're like me and your negative or anxious thoughts triumph over the positive ones, you'll love this book. Allen explores the "why" behind these thoughts and shares the destructive patterns that she herself has struggled with. She is so relatable in her storytelling when she herself spiralled into darkness. She shares how turning to God and her faith helped in beautiful ways. It can feel like an impossible battle sometimes but this book was so encouraging with biblical insights and tangible ways to change your patterns. STAFF PICKS -- "I do not read much fiction (perhaps about one or two novels a year). However, last year I read C. S. Lewis' Till We Have Faces, which Lewis himself considered his greatest work. The story is a retelling of the Greek myth concerning Cupid and Psyche, but in reality is about the struggle to understand God's actions amidst our pain and his supposed silence, and the shocking gift of God himself. The beautiful quote that first drew me to reading the novel is: "I know now, Lord, why you utter no answer. You are yourself the answer. Before your face questions die away. One of our favourite events of the year is our annual Lord Elgin Turkey Dinner. It was amazing hosting hundreds of Lord Elgin students and staff for a meal and time together today. Thanks to the many, many volunteers who helped coordinate, serve, cook, greet, and care for the students throughout the day.

The Christmas season is here, and there is lots happening at North Park. Here are a few things happening this week. -There will be a hymn sing in the Theatre from 2:30-3:30pm on Sunday. -We're so excited to have Lord Elgin Public School here on Wednesday for our annual Christmas Dinner. We always love having them here each year for a full Christmas meal and festive games and songs. -We hope to see you at a service this weekend. If you have a filled Dare to Give bag for Mission Services, don't forget to bring it with you as this is the last weekend we'll be collecting these.

Many hands make light work, so last week a group of North Park youth stopped by Mission Services to help sort and organize the items you have so generously been giving through our Dare to Give program. These items will be distributed to those most vulnerable in our community throughout the year. VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHT -- Michelle and Kayleigh are two of our North Park Youth small group leaders and are deeply invested in the lives of their Grade 7 girls. They have been walking closely with their girls since they were in Children’s Ministry, showing them what it means to live like Jesus in their daily lives. They understand that youth ministry goes beyond the walls of the church, staying connected with their girls and their families. Michelle and Kayleigh bring passion, energy and Christ’s love to youth every single week. We are so grateful for their investment and dedication to youth ministry at North Park.

Each week, they gather to come alongside and encourage those who have lost a loved one, and it is truly inspiring to see how God has been able to use their own experiences of grief and loss to bring hope and healing to others who are also journeying through a season of grief. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” - Matthew 5:4

Did you know we welcome about 150 kids each week in our Children’s Ministry, and it takes about 40 dedicated volunteers each week to help ensure each and every one of them is well cared for throughout our two services? We are in need of some more volunteers to help care for and grow faith in the lives of the little ones in our community.
