NICOLE FRENCH

Hi, my name is Nicole French and from September 1 – May 15, 2017, I will be serving in an internship with Athletes in Action (AIA) Canada.

AIA is a branch of Power to Change Canada ministries with a specific focus on athletes. It is committed to using the language of sport to communicate the most important message of all: God’s passionate love for his children as displayed through his Son, Jesus Christ. I will be serving with AIA on the campuses of Carleton University, Ottawa University and Algonquin College. In my role I will get to know student athletes and cheer them on, not only through their mental and physical endeavours but more lasting in their spiritual walk as well.

I began attending North Park on the first Sunday of my first year at Western. Coming from the small town of Uxbridge, Ontario, I was very happy to find a church to call home for the next four years. I quickly became involved with North Park’s young adults group, where I joined a small group and found a fantastic community! I was able to spend some time leading a grade 9 girls small group and in the past two years have been privileged to attend International Justice Mission’s (IJM) Global Prayer Gathering in Washington and visit IJM and other North Park partners in Thailand during August of 2015.

My relationship with Athletes in Action began in my 3rd year of university. While playing on Western’s Women’s Hockey team I found myself trapped in a prison of performance. I became so absorbed in my game that I allowed my play to influence my worth outside of hockey as well. After my 3rd year, I attended AIA’s National Training Camp in Ottawa where we were challenged to ask ourselves who or what we were playing for. This shook me as I realized that if I did not reorient my focus now, I would never stop playing for my own pride, nor striving for the approval of my coaches, teammates and others. My heart for AIA is that students would realize their infinite value, purpose and freedom regardless of their athletic or academic achievements. It has been amazing to see the good things God is doing through AIA on campuses across Canada and I am beyond excited to be joining Him as He speaks His worth and purpose into students’ lives.

Please pray for me as I embark on this internship. Pray for the student athletes who are striving to please others, that they would know the height and depth of God’s love for them. Pray for boldness of the staff, interns and Christians playing on varsity teams as they follow God’s lead on their campuses.

If you have any question or want to know more I’d love to talk with you! I can be reached at nicolef@athletesinaction.com or 647-997-5324.

In order to undertake this internship, I am praying that God will provide $30, 000 to cover the costs. If you would like to contribute to my ministry financially, please contact me or CLICK HERE to give Online through Power to Change.

At North Park Community Church we are committed to standing with young leaders who are prepared to take extended time out of their lives to touch the world with their gifts and skills. We have a Global Intern Team in place that inspires, coaches and walks in partnership with these young leaders as they take the time to grow through internships around the world. Contact global@northpark.ca for more details. A portion of Nicole’s funding is provided by North Park Community Church.

Join Nicole’s support and prayer team and stand with her in this important season in her growth and development.
