DARE TO GIVE

Needless to say, everything is different this year ... except the needs of those who are most vulnerable.
Those needs in our city never stop.

This year, we invite you to once again generously participate in Dare to Give at North Park.
Yes, it will be different from previous years—you will not get bags to fill and return. But each week, you will have the opportunity to meet some of the most urgent needs identified by those working on the frontlines, or at the street level,  of the various shelters and programs at Mission Services of London.

We know shopping for these items may be a bit more challenging right now. You can buy a single item in greater volume, or a variety of items—your choice. Mission Services will sort and distribute these items where needed
in the coming weeks and months.

Every Friday, we will post the next week's collection items online.
Please drop that week's specific donations off at the North Park drive-through from 9:00-3:00pm each weekday
and between 6:00 and 9:00pm on Mondays.

Please note that due to COVID-19, used or gently used items will not be accepted.

Below is a list of the gift campaigns for each week. Thank you for helping us care for the marginalized in our city in this tangible way.

Week 1: Gift of Wellness

October 30 to November 6

Basic hygiene needs are critically important, especially in these times of health crisis.  Consider either small or regular sized items; not gigantic shampoos or bottles which, while more economical, are impossible to cart around.
PRAY: As you purchase these items, will you also pray for those receiving them? Pray that they may be protected from COVID-19, that they will seek and receive quality healthcare when needed and that they will practice good self-care in difficult times.
  • Deodorant
  • Razors (required for men & women)
  • Shampoo, conditioner
  • Toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss
  • Liquid hand soap ( no bars)
  • Liquid body soap ( no bars)
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Feminine hygiene products

Week 2: Gift of Warmth—Men, Women and Children

November 7 to November 13

The months ahead are often damp and cold, and we all need a little warmth.  Due to health restrictions, there are fewer gathering spaces open and programs available.
PRAY: As you purchase these items, please pray for the person receiving them—that they will find safe shelter from the cold, caring support, warm relationships and nutritious meals.
  • Hats for adults & kids
  • Mitts for adults & kids
  • Gloves
  • Winter scarves
  • Warm boots for men, women and children
  • Umbrellas for adults & kids
* no socks are needed;  they have a very generous supply already

Week 3: Gift of Dignity—Men, Women and Children

November 14 to November 20

Clean underwear is a basic human need that we take for granted in our society.  There is a limited availability of safe laundry facilities for those living on the street or in shelter, in public housing and in many low-rental apartments.
PRAY: This week, pray that we will treat all those we see who are fragile, hurting, or alone with great dignity and concern—as if they were Jesus himself.  They are precious in God's eyes.
  • Men's boxer briefs in sizes M  L   XL   XXL
  • Women's underwear in sizes  S  M  L  XL  XXL
  • Children's underwear in all sizes
  • Bras in sizes  S  M  L  XL  XXL
  • Children's pajamas in all sizes

Week 4: Gift of Daily Needs

November 21 to November 27

Each day, may we have opportunity to bless someone in need with something good to eat or drink, or with a means of getting where they need to go.  These are all simple but critical needs.
PRAY: We ask you to pray that the love of God will be expressed in the sacrificial act of offering a "cup of cold water" in His name as only the Spirit of God can do.
  • Snacks - muffins, cookies, squares individually wrapped and packaged
  • Peanut-free snacks
  • Juice boxes
  • Bus tickets
  • Reusable water bottles for adult & kids

Week 5: Gift of New Beginnings

November 28 to December 4

The sincere hope of each person is to find a safe place to call home. It is not easy to find affordable housing these days. As people move into new homes, many items are required and often there is not enough money to purchase them. These are just a few items to help people get started.
PRAY: We ask that you pray earnestly for more affordable housing, great landlords, and for support workers to help with each transition.

  • Sponges
  • Buckets/pails
  • Toilet brushes
  • Laundry detergent
  • Dish soap
